Moss, born 13 February 1977, is an ex-American football player. He was a player
in the National Football League (NFL) for 14 seasons with the Minnesota
Vikings, Oakland Raiders, New England Patriots, Tennessee Titans, and the San
Francisco 49ers. He is widely regarded as the best wide receiver in history
together with Jerry Rice, he holds the NFL single-season touchdown reception
record (23 in 2007) in addition to the NFL single-season record of touchdown
receptions for rookies (17 in 1998) and is ranked second on the NFL all-time
regular season touchdown list with 156. Moss is famous for his ability to make
contested catches. The word "mossed" which is now a part of the
football vocabulary, was popularized because of the fact that he was a
successful. He began his career as a studio analyst with ESPN's Sunday NFL
Countdown and Tuesday Night Countdown shows. Moss was a Rand, West Virginia
native. He was a student at DuPont High School, one of two schools which eventually
merged into Riverside High School, where he excelled in football, basketball,
baseball, and track. Randy was also a member of the school's debate club. Moss
played a key role in leading the DuPont Panthers football team to two
consecutive state championships in 1992, 1993. Moss was an outstanding wide
receiver however, he also played free safety, returned kickoffs and punts, as
well as was the team's kicker and punter. He was awarded the Kennedy Award in
1994 as West Virginia's Football Player of the Year. Parade magazine named him
to their annual All-American high school football team in 1995. in 2009, he was
named as one of the 50 most influential football players from high school of
all time.
